María Daniela Cabrera Porras is an undergraduate student in Biomedical Engineering at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala. Her academic interests focus on the development of paper-based biosensors, colorimetric diagnostics, and low-cost biomedical devices for accessible healthcare. She has participated in research involving glucose detection using paper-based analytical devices, and has experience in assembling and testing point-of-care diagnostic systems. In addition, she has been involved in the organizational planning of healthcare establishments, with a focus on infrastructure and clinical engineering considerations. She is currently exploring the development of organ-on-a-chip systems and related microtechnologies as alternatives to animal testing and for disease modeling in low-resource settings.
