Additional Description:
Silicified microcrystalline cellulose (SMCC) is a synergistic, intimate physical mixture of microcrystalline cellulose (up to 98%) and colloidal silicon dioxide (2% w/w), created through a silicification process that closely associates the two components. SMCC combines the excellent compactibility of microcrystalline cellulose with superior flow properties, making it well suited to direct compression formulations, where it offers advantages in both flow and compactibility. It exhibits both brittle fracture and plastic deformation, giving superior binding properties. It is insoluble in water, ethanol, ether, and dilute mineral acids, slightly soluble in sodium hydroxide solution, and able to swell in water, dilute acid, and most solvents.
