Appearing as a white to yellowish powder or translucent granule, this PVA is moderately soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in acetone and almost insoluble otherwise; the XY-88 grade dissolves well in both hot and cold water. Applications include a film-forming agent in coatings, sprays and film coatings; a thickener and suspending agent in eye drops; a tablet and granule binder; a base for gels and plasters; an emulsifier/stabilizer in oil-in-water emulsions thanks to its suspending effect; and a coating material for food additives.
