Additional Description:
Liraglutide is a once-daily GLP-1 derivative for type 2 diabetes. Its prolonged action comes from attaching a fatty acid at position 26 of the GLP-1 molecule, allowing reversible albumin binding in subcutaneous tissue and blood for slow release over time; this albumin binding slows degradation and renal elimination compared with native GLP-1. Liraglutide increases insulin secretion and decreases glucagon secretion in response to glucose, and slows gastric emptying, without impairing glucagon's response to low blood sugar.
