Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), CAS 9004-65-3, is a nonionic cellulose ether in which hydroxyl groups on the cellulose chain are replaced with methoxy or hydroxypropyl groups. Made from natural cotton linter through a chemical reaction, it dissolves in both cold and hot water to form a clear solution, and is used as a thickener, binder and film-former across construction, pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, detergent, paint, adhesive, ink, PVC and other applications.
