The rhizomes contain natural antioxidant curcuminoids, including curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, bis-demethoxycurcumin, 5'-methoxycurcumin and dihydrocurcumin. A further curcuminoid, cyclocurcumin, was isolated from turmeric's nematocidally active fraction, and the fresh rhizomes also yield two novel phenolic compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, along with two new pigments.
