Acetium is a CE-marked medical device patented by Biohit Oyj for people with a low-acid or acid-free stomach, intended to protect the stomach in three high-risk groups: those with atrophic gastritis, those taking acid-reducing medication (proton pump inhibitors or H2 blockers), and those with chronic Helicobacter infection, since an acid-free stomach is a primary risk factor for gastric cancer and a significant one for oesophageal cancer. It uses a slow-release matrix-granule formula in a hard HPMC capsule with L-cysteine (100 mg/capsule) as its active ingredient, is sugar-, lactose-, and gluten-free, contains no animal- or human-derived ingredients, and is packaged as 60 capsules dosed 1-2 per meal or alcoholic drink.
