Vera Pires is a Hospital Pharmacist and has been working at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Lisbon since 2000. She graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2000 and obtained a postgraduate degree in Hospital Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon, in 2006. She is a Specialist in Hospital Pharmacy, certified by the Order of Pharmacists. In 2010, she completed the Specialization Course in Hospital Administration at the National School of Public Health in Lisbon. In her 24 years at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Lisbon, her current areas of focus are solid tumors, bone marrow transplantation, and CAR T cells. In her current role, she focuses on clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical care for oncology patients, drug information, and the development/implementation of protocols. She is noted for her ability to integrate technical, clinical, and management knowledge to improve patient care quality and promote the sustainability of the National Health Service (SNS). Her experience also extends to associative leadership, where she currently serves as Vice-President of the Portuguese Association of Hospital Pharmacists (APFH). In this context, she plays an active role in organizing congresses, thematic meetings, and training courses, promoting professional development and knowledge sharing among peers. She is a member of several scientific societies, such as the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) (as a member of the Pharmacist Committee) and the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) (as a delegate since 2018), where she has contributed to the implementation of best practices and the advancement of oncology pharmacy at an international level. She is co-author of several posters and presentations on topics related to the optimization of oncology treatments, the economic impact of drug use, personalized therapies, pharmacokinetic monitoring, etc., presented at national and international conferences. Her work has contributed to health gains and the implementation of evidence-based practices, having received several awards.
