Dr. Renato Cardoso is a Senior Researcher at Nucro-Technics, a Contract Research Organisation based in the Toronto area, Canada. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology with over 15 years of experience in the Genetic Toxicology field. As a geneticist and a toxicologist working in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Cardoso has been responsible for designing, monitoring, and interpretation of over 110 GLP toxicology studies to support the development and approval of drug candidates (IND, BLAs and NDAs) in various therapeutic areas. With a solid background in research, Dr. Cardoso is leading the internal R&D program at Nucro-Technics. His keen business sense lead the company to focus the research activity to solve one of the most important challenges pharmaceutical companies are facing during drug development process – clinical failure due unpredicted toxicity. Dr. Cardoso is combining classical toxicology methods with innovative in silico models to identify more predictive safety biomarkers. He is responsible for the development of a series of mass spectrometry based assays for an accurate drug safety evaluation. Working directly with the company’s CEO, Dr. Cardoso has been responsible for the conception and execution of research projects that are aligned with Nucro-Technics’s strategic plan. He is also responsible for managing scientific collaborations with either public or private entities. Dr. Cardoso has contributed with the performance of the market evaluation and IP scenario to identify attractive opportunities and define strategy for commercialization of products developed by Nucro-Technics. Dr. Cardoso is a full member of the Society of Toxicology and of the Genetic Toxicology Association. He also worked as a volunteer scientific reviewer for the Canadian Institute of Health Research. His commitment to research is demonstrated by numerous scientific articles published in influential journals (eg.: JEM, Plos Genetics, Cancer Research, JBC).
