Dr Adaora Patience Onwuka is an Assistant Director in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, University of Portharcourt Teaching Hospital Alakahia, Rivers State, Nigeria. She was employed in 2003..Her area of specialization is on Medical Medical and Environmental Microbiology with focus on Molecular Characterization of antibiotic resistant genes in Bacteria isolates from Clinical Specimens. She strives for the full Implementation of the World Health Organization, Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute Guidelines (CLSI) in all her Antimicrobial resistance studies, which are sustainable goals to ensure that a more responsible Antimicrobial policy is implemented to effectively curb the proliferation of drug resistance in nosocomial infections. Her PhD thesis titled Molecular Characterization of Resistant genes in Bacteria isolates from Clinical Specimens was selected among the best Doctoral thesis in 2018 Postgraduate thesis defence and have also contributed to the body of knowlegde in terms of Creating an awareness and Initiative Campaign on Antimicrobial resistance which is a sustainable goal to ensure that a more responsible Antimicrobial policy is implemented to effectively curb the proliferation of drug resistance in University of Portharcourt Teaching Hospital, Alakahia, Rivers State, Nigeria. She has supervised a good number of undergraduates and Postgraduate thesis and have contributed to the body of knowlegde in terms of good scholarly publications ( more than 25 articles) in peer -reviewed International and Local journals and 5 Conference papers in Conference proceedings. Her researches have also been presented as Oral Papers/Posters at Local and International Conferences. She was awarded the Associateship and Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science London (IBMS) in 2005 and 2007 respectively. She is a very active and Fellow member of the West African Post Graduate College of Medical Laboratory Sciences (FWAPCMLS), Nigeria Society of Microbiology (NSM), Fellow of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Nigeria Biological Safety Association (NIBSA), member of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN), Honourable member of the Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors(GMLD), member of the Association of the Female Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AFMLS), member of the Women of Colour Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS) Nigeria and an active member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). She has mentored a good number of Biomedical Scientists over the years and have been appointed by the Association of Female Medical Laboratory Scientists Rivers State Branch, Nigeria as Chairman of the Committe of two important International events , the World Diabetes day Conference/ Workshop 2021 and 2022 respectively and the International Women's Day 2023 Conference/Workshop . She wrote a book, titled Practical manual for Biomedical Sciences.Dr Adaora Patience Onwuka is a distinguished and an accomplished Biomedical Scientist that hae excelled in her career to the level of an Assistant Director Medical Laboratory Services for the past twenty years . She is happily married to Professor Francis Chukwuma Anacletus and they are blessed with four adorable Children.
