Spanish public university with its rectorate at Elche in Alicante province, created in 1997 and named after the poet Miguel Hernández, with campuses at Elche, Sant Joan d'Alacant, Orihuela and Altea. Teaches pharmacy, medicine, physiotherapy, human nutrition and dietetics and biotechnology among its degrees, runs the Institute of Neurosciences jointly with the Spanish National Research Council, the Institute of Bioengineering and the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, and carries out research in neuropharmacology, drug design and delivery, natural products and clinical research.
