German public university at Gießen in Hesse, founded in 1607 and named after the chemist Justus von Liebig, who worked there. Teaches through faculties of veterinary medicine, human medicine with the Gießen and Marburg university hospital, biology and chemistry, agricultural sciences, nutritional sciences and environmental management, and law, economics and the humanities, and carries out research in veterinary pharmacology and toxicology, food chemistry and nutrition, infection biology and analytical chemistry with its own institutes and clinics.
