German public university in Mainz in Rhineland-Palatinate, founded in 1477, closed in 1798 and refounded in 1946, named after the printer Johannes Gutenberg. Teaches pharmacy and biomedical chemistry through its department of chemistry, pharmaceutical and geosciences, together with medicine, biology and chemistry, works with the Mainz university medical centre for clinical teaching and trials, and carries out research in medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical technology, immunology and translational oncology with its own institutes.
