Measures and forecasts water levels and flows, studies water quality, sediment and dredged material, and runs ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry laboratories analysing contaminants, pharmaceutical residues and micropollutants in water, sediment and fish, assesses the ecological effects of waterway works and keeps the national environmental specimen bank samples for freshwater.
