Battelle

American private non-profit research and development organisation based at Columbus in Ohio, founded in 1929 under the will of the industrialist Gordon Battelle and the largest such institute in the country. Carries out contract research for government and industry in health and life sciences, national security, energy and the environment, runs toxicology, medical device and biopharmaceutical testing and CBRN defence work in its own laboratories, and manages or co-manages several United States national laboratories.
